Travel is one of the most fulfilling, eye-opening, exciting and wonderful experiences that humans get to enjoy. However it’s easy to get so caught up in everyday life that there just seems to be ‘no time’ to travel. In this post I’m going to share with you my 5 reasons for why you should drop everything and travel right now!
1. It changes your view of the world.
When you get out of your home town, you experience new cultures that you have never seen before. When you do this, you really start to think about the world in ways that are totally new to you. You appreciate traditions, lifestyles, stories, history and you get to become a part of the culture you are entering, even if it’s just for a short time.
You also have more empathy for global suffering. If you travel to a third world country you see the struggles that people have to go through, and it makes you realise that breaking your iPhone screen last week really isn’t that bad.
2. You get actual alone time.
One of the most fulfilling things I did was traveling alone in Thailand. I was there for 30 days and with friends most of the time, but for 10 days I was riding solo. Internet is limited and this is a great thing. When you are alone in a very unfamiliar country, you speak to yourself. Even if you’re alone at home, realistically you are connected with the world via your phone, so when you travel you can really switch off and be with yourself. Talking to yourself is a really strange sensation, but it allows you to reflect, to think, to be honest with yourself and really get a new perspective on life.
3. It takes you out of your comfort zone.
“Life begins at the end of your comfort zone” is a great quote. Getting out of where you feel safe and secure is one of the best things you can do, and it makes you feel alive!
4. It makes you appreciate life.
When you do make it outside your comfort zone and doing things you’ve never done, you realise how much fun you are having. You start to fully appreciate the moments instead of letting them just slip by. I remember the second time I visited Thailand, I enjoyed every second of it because I knew how much it sucks to leave! Just riding a bike with the wind in my hair, I was so happy I couldn’t stop smiling.
There are other instances when sometimes it’s hard and you feel alone. This makes you appreciate your loved ones back home.
5. You cannot put a price on experience.
When you buy material things, you are just buying stuff that usually has an expiry date and it’s not inspiring. When you travel, you are spending money on experiences, friendship, memories that you remember forever, and it is incredibly likely that some of the best times of your life are when you’re travelling.
When you’re older you won’t cherish all those hours you spent working or the clothes you bought. You’ll cherish the moments you created when you traveled. And that comes from someone who hustles 24/7!
So there are 5 reasons you should get out into the world and get some travel into your life! Have some fun and start planning a trip away. Enjoy!
